Regular visitors to our website (both of you) will have spotted that we have a new name – Nick Hodson Lawyers Limited. Yes, we are now a company. It’s a recent innovation that law firms have had the option to incorporate as companies – until the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 came into effect lawyers were only able to practice in partnerships. The irony is that most lawyers would advise their clients against running a business through a partnership. So, at the start of the 21st century, and only 300 years after lawyers invented the company structure, New Zealand lawyers are incorporating their law firms.
The other big news is that Jeremy becomes a director of the firm. He’s taken a stake in the company as a shareholder and, like all business owners, is loving the challenge of having his “skin in the game”. Wish him luck!
